Well stated counter points. Respect to you.

But saying that it's the driver fault they just slammed into a chunk of steel cords and rubber thrown down by a semi is like blaming the blind folded guy for not moving out of the way during the firing squad.

Ps - I find it difficult to believe a virgin tire will fail and somehow provide shrapnel larger than a dollar bill. I suppose it's possible, I just dont see how. Conversely i see it as almost impossible that a retread could fail and not leave a very large obstruction in the roadway.
