Biggest difference I noticed is the 5.0 comes on very strong in the higher RPMs, but down low it is nothing special. Where as the SS 6.2L has strong torque all the way from just off idle. First time I stepped on a 5.0, I thought - is that all there is, pretty weak. Then I realized you had to really hold it floored and when the rpms build - then the power comes on real strong.
Give me a large cube pushrod V8 any day over a high revving overhead cam motor. I don't care which one does the 1/4 quicker, having more torque down low makes every drive more exciting - not just when you hold it floored to 7000 rpm.
