Oh, you am soo correct about the fictional character. Yeah, the quote is from the author, Bram Stoker. We gotta' be frightfully (especially in this case) diligent to separate direct quotes (what we want) from indirect quotes made through intermediaries.
As to your quote. The most famous autodidact whom I can name, Abraham Lincoln, would agree, but would he apply so thorough an objective evaluation to education as a whole? I think not. Alack. :(
Benjamin Franklin would agree as it pertained to himself, yet he founded what is today the University of Pennsylvania. The same could be said about other autodidacts of the Ancient World. Wow, you've provided us a tough one here.
