I also failed to answer your point about heritage. You're right that some models have a long history. Take the GT500 and GT models. They haven't really moved much.
However, we can't forget about classics, like the SVT Cobra, that are no longer part of the lineup. When the Cobra was on the lot, other models were notably absent. It suggests that Ford decided to, rather than continuing a tradition that would only come back later, change its branding and offer a different name.
Basically, Chevrolet kept certain products in certain places. A Z28 was always a Z28. They never called it a Camaro Panther. Ford would replace one model with another model that held the same place with a different name. For enthusiasts, that's both confusing and redundant.

Ford doesn't produce them that way. I know for a fact that the RTR is a dealer package and the gt350 literally has to be bought as a GT then sent by the buyer to Shelby to be built, it is NOT built by FoMoCo. The super snake is also a secondary package from shelby and the name super snake has been used by shelby since the 60s. As far as I know there are only 50 of the pace cars. . . Camaro has many too. Transformers edition, Synergy, Indy 500 pace car, etc.

I don't really get your point about the cobra. GT500, GT350, super snake and Boss 302 are full of heritage, far more than the svt cobra.
