My 372 mile commute today

You read that right. I live in Phoenix and I have a building up in the mountains of eastern Arizona in a town called Show Low. Show Low has the misfortune of being 50 miles west of a 400,000 acre forest fire called the Wallow Fire. I ended up taking State Route 87 through Payson to State Route 260 to Show Low. Along the way I could see the massive smoke cloud from the fire about 100 miles away. Although the fire isn't threatening my building or the town the smell of pine cones gets old after awhile.

On my way out from Show Low I noticed that the 260 going back to Phoenix was closed until 7PM tonight about halfway down the route. Since this is the only road going directly west I decided to take the US60 southwest to Globe. Keep in mind this isn't a normal stretch of road as it has no towns during the 90 mile duration to Globe and it goes through Salt River Canyon. All in all the US60 route was two miles shorter than 87 and 260, the grand total round trip being 372 miles. I managed to get lots of pics (all the white clouds in the distance in the photos taken in the car and gas station) of the fire and the canyon, not exactly a normal commute.

Also along the way to Show Low and back I saw the following Camaros:

1. A white 5th Gen SS with black rally stripes heading west on Shea past Scottsdale Road in Scottsdale.
2. A black V6 93-97 4th Gen heading north on 87 just a block south of 260 in Payson.
3. A Silver 5th Gen LT heading west 10 miles out of Heber on the 260.
4. A white 3rd Gen RS heading west on 260 around Kmart in Show Low.
5. A Yellow 5th Gen SS heading north through Salt River Canyon on the US60. Believe me this guy had guts to drive his car on this road.
6. A yellow 3rd Gen base model (Iron Duke) heading west on the US60 through Globe, Claypool and Miami.
7. A Red Jewel 5th Gen LT heading east on the 202 just past Val Vista in Mesa.
