Many cars already have black boxes that record key parameters for the last 6 seconds of operation. Throttle position, speed, etc. It requires a subpoena to get it as I understand.
OnStar is completely different. OnStar has so many privacey shields you wouldn't believe it. So don't buy into the aluminum hat paranoid patrol. No service will servive if your privacy isn't maintained. They are in business for the long haul so giving away any information on you isn't in the long term best interest of OnStar.
