Just wanted to throw my 2 cents worth in.
I own the Mossberg Maverick Model 88 12 ga. shotgun. Also the Hy-Point Model JCP 40 S&W SemiAuto. I have the Mosin–Nagant M1891/30 lever action which fires 7.62x54R rounds and was made in Russia in 1943. I also have the Taurus Model 66B6 Revolver which fires .357 Magnum as well as .38 ammo. And last but not least the Glock Model 17 which is a SemiAuto and fires 9mm rounds.
Now I go to the range every so often. I buy boxes when they go on sale not bulk. I'd buy bulk if I could do it mail order and not have to go through the FFL/Dealer. Anyone know how mail order works?
I haven't flown with any of my guns yet, but if I understand it right all you have to do is disassemble the weapon and pack the parts in your checked baggage. Then when you check in the baggage you declare the weapon and that it is disassembeled in the luggage. They will open it then find it and your luggage should check in fine after that. Unless there is anything vital I forgot, which someone could let me know, I think that's it. I don't think the ammo is allowed.
As far as purchasing guns, in most states you must be age 18 to buy rifles and shotguns. Some states require age 21 to buy rifles and shotguns. For handguns I think all states require age 21 to buy. For handguns these must be registered in all states, irregardless of caliber. The seller has the obligation to register the handgun with the Department of Justice when the background check for the handgun is made. It's always best to check before you plan buy for your particular area. Check with the seller and the local police, they should be able to answer any questions you may have.
Now recently I visited some websites offering to sell firearms. I noticed that there were M1s, M16s, M203s, SAWs, M60s, M50s, Barrett Model 62A1s, and so on. I even saw the Soviet AK-47s for sale. Now in order to purchase these guns you need 2 things; 1. The money and 2. a FFL or a dealer who will recieve the gun for you(considering not everyone posesses a FFL). I don't understand how they can do that myself, but there it is. A word to the wise; these guns are running anywhere from $2000 to $150000 depending on the weapon you are interested in. Google conceals a multitude of sins.
I was looking for a Colt 1911 .45ACP till I saw the prices. So now I will be looking for the best 1911 made be any company for $500 or less.
They're out there believe me. You just gotta know where to look.
I just wrote a whole lotta shit so don't hold me to anything. If you do the research you'll find out what I found out. Oh, and good hunting!
