If I were a die hard fan an COD player, yes, I would. But I'm not. But, since I don't pay to play because I'm on PS3, I might consider it for such a nominal fee.
So in return you get three map packs before they release the next CoD game. Instead of $45 (3x$15) you would pay $96 (12x$8).
This isn't just about maps. It's about social interaction too. Connecting with friends, like minded people, ladder play, clans etc. There are a LOT of features here. And a $10 a month, that's not bad.
I guess it will be voluntary, if you only want the original maps that come with the game. I bet Activision will limit the content they give you up front to promote Elite enrollment.
There's no guessing, it will be voluntary. And there will also be a free version of elite too, but there seems to be fewer details about it too.
