yeah, its fine to run the motor with the valve cover off, just dont drive it around like that. and keep the cardboard nearby cus if everything is working properly, oil will be squirting out of the pushrods/rockers and you want to use the cardboard to direct the oil back into the head to drain back to the pan.
and yeah, the motors are tucked away in these damn cars. at least you only have 6 cyls to work with. lol.
one quick thing before you go (if you havent already), let the motor warm up before you go driving on it to give yourself some extra time with the motor.

seafoam is fine for any motor. follow the guide in the link I posted. granted its written up on an LT1 f-body, the procedure is the same for any vehicle. and of course, if you have any questions, feel free to ask me.
