Saleen's comments were probably focused on the Mustang ethusiasts like others said, but I thought Saleen was supposed to develop a Saleen Camaro? Anyway I don't know, but it comes down to the rivalry.....

Here is the thing about the Mustang/Camaro rivalry.

The Mustang almost always has been edged out by the Camaro due to bigger engines and more horsepower in stock form. Most people are reasonable enough to know this, both Ford guys and GM guys.

However, any rivalry requires similar vehicles with similar performance (i.e. there isn't a rivalry between a Dodge Viper and the Toyota Carolla)

And when the passion of the rivalry is taken to the track, where people hardly ever race stock, it is the modified Mustangs and modified Camaros that make for the truely great battles across the nation.

So what if a Mustang has a supercharger, so what if the Camaro has over another liter of displacement over the Mustang? It is remarkably easy to get BOTH of these cars into the 12s and 11s, both blown and N/A.

There was even a recent example of a N/A 05 Mustang that ran high 11s on the puny N/A 4.6L engine.

The Camaro and Mustang are BOTH cheap BOTH fast and can they both have the potential to become REALLY F'N FAST. That is why we have the rivalry.
