The problem here is that Nissan didn't improve on the EV1. GM saw the shortcomings of a regular EV and that's why the Volt has a range extender. The Leaf gives you maybe 70 miles of range on a good day, the Volt gives you infinite range no matter what weather and road conditions you're driving through as long as you can find a gas station, just like every other car.Basically Nissan hasn't been doing their homework, and consumers are quickly finding out what a shoddy job they did. If you're going to tout a car as a game-changer as Nissan has with the Leaf, then you better be damn well sure that the car performs up to spec, and the Leaf simply doesn't. It's a half-assed and impractical car rushed to production in an effort to beat the Volt to market. Nissan engineers themselves have said that they really needed more time to get the car right, but corporate refused to give them extra time. Now Nissan is feeling the effects as more and more news articles go online regarding highly inaccurate range calculations and stranded owners.

Has anyone tested the Volt's range without a battery recharge?
