Because the Volt has the same 0-60 time. Depending on the driver, sometimes even faster.

You can do a lot with instant peak torque on launch.

As for alternative energy sources, what would you propose? Ethanol? A lot of problems with that by itself. Hydrogen? Too unstable, and lacks a widespread infrastructure. Electricity is the only widely available alternative energy source other than gasoline right now. It's not perfect, but it will have to do for now.
thats what im saying if you missed my point the reason these companies are failing is because we are using "only alternetive" its a great theory but people made a big mistake when they started it in production, its to early.
instant torque is great for city driving going from 0-30 not 0-60 based on the weight of the car the engine has to work double almost. honestly engines today are great what we need to do is looking taking that power and actually muiltiplying through the driveline....(my idea) lol why does the ls7 505 hp make 28 mph on highway? duh the corvette weighs 3100 pounds it doesnt take a 500hp engine to move it that far, but its fun lol. weight reduction would have alot of improvment in affecting gas miliage alone. the man who in invented the engine was a genious,"lets use rotation to counteract the rotation of the earth using its mass" simple right? problem with mass its hard to move. lol all im saying is we need to keep researching and improving not downgrading and just accepting the fact that this is how it has to be. yes yes i know lots of spelling errors lol
