Which is why I mentioned mining and the car carriers. For ever ship that we send to Japan loaded with cars (car carriers are not useful for anything else) they send us 20 or more. I've heard that each trip by one of these ships burns 1.5M liters of diesel fuel. Divide that by the number of cars on each one and the emissions per car are fairly significant.

Nickle mining is extremely energy intensive and there is a lot environmental damage (not just CO2 emissions) being done around Sudbury because of the increased nickle demand.

If you really want whats best for the environment, you have to look at the total picture, not purely CO2 tailpipe emissions.
