My money is on an M4 or something similar. I have seen people shot in the head with a 40 cal pistol. Very little structural damage. Reports said he was shot above the left eye and there was substantial damage done. I assume that to be the exit wound. A 5.56 or larger has the capability to do that, not a 9mm. I have never seen anyone clear a room with a pistol if a long gun was available. Unless there was some sort of malfunction with the long gun...
