Yeah, I hear ya. I'm surprised you can hear it out of the manifold.. I never heard it, more over the covers and heads.
I don't think I have so much slap as just 'clicky' arms and lifters (even for an LS1). Nothing big. Hence why I want to cover them up and put some sound deadening padding on the backside to cover up the major clicks. If I have to pull the interior I may also dynomat the car (except for around the trunk pan so I can hear the note under load
