I think a lot of the hate stems from the generalization that everyone who drives an "import" acts like they want to live in "The Fast and the Furious" movies.
Kind of played out IMO, the big graphics, abundant use of stickers, coffee can mufflers etc.
Some of it has to do with "American Pride"
Some folks are racist too, believe it or not. Even camaro owners.
Takes all kinds I suppose.
Bottom line is, that generalizations usually are a bad thing.
Personally I think there are some amazing Japanese cars. The Nissan GTR, the Subaru WRX, and many others. I just prefer to drive american muscle. That's MY flavor.
I'm also half Chinese, Half Italian.
I think the Korean dude who designed our Camaros is a genius!!
