I've never understood the point of buying a V6 pony car (I'll make exceptions for the Camaro's DI V6 and the Ecoboost). The entire point of a pony car is to get a big engine, and a V6 completely defeats the purpose.
And the Mustang's game has ALWAYS been to offer a somewhat inferior product at a lower cost. Considering how well it's worked for the last several years, I can't say I blame their strategy.

The SE has better power to weight than the Mustang does . . . heck, my 175 hp Grand Am wouldn't be too far behind a V6 Mustang.
Why buy a V6 pony car? The V6 is about buying a cool looking sporty coupe.
