On another note, I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about the development costs on a next-gen Camaro. While this generation had to survive largely on its own...the 6th gen won't have that problem since most of the core development work will have been done for the ATS.

It'll be interesting to see how the timeline works out. Personally...I'm not expecting to see a 6th gen Camaro until calender year 2015. And then we can dig even deeper wondering if it'll come with a "fully-equipped" model lineup, or just the standard cars at first...
I can assume GM is getting closer to green profit by the recent improvements and experiments. We have new interior coming, a convertible, GMPP aftermarket racing support via SSX and the ZL1.. also, I heard there are factory cash back bonuses popping up now.

New products or advancements in old products is a sign that they have extra money to spend. Looking at the sales numbers I can distinguish profit margin upgrades from a panic induced reaction to slumping sales... I would say its the extra dough allowing this to happen mid-model.
