it ain't about who 'owns' the company. it's about who designs the car. lexus is basically a toyota with luxury features standard. it's a very similar situation for acura/honda, infinity/nissan, and others. the opel gt is just a sky sold in britain. i call that an american car.

actually, in more recent years (especially the 03-07 models), they've tried to make gmc a more upscale version. the denali packages really gave you the cadillac luxury features for a bit less than the one with the crest. they are built in lower volumes & have a bit better resale value.
