I'd just like to see this actual amount of 787 billion go for some rebuilding of whats been lost. Whatever it takes to get americans out of this rut with a good paying job making something the world needs. You might guess my camaro money depends on aviation .
I think part of the reason that McD is gone may have to do with the stories my father-in-law tells about coming to work there after a late night and falling asleep in the back of the bus that took workers from the parking lot to their work areas. He claims to have never written up for this...

The problem with your idea is that it doesn't create wealth, it only moves it around. This might not be a bad deal for someone who gets a busy-work job, but this the kind of government intervention destroys jobs and discourages the creation of new ones. And I don't think there is that much need for real infrastructure improvements compared to the real unemployment rate, so what we probably won't get much of anything out of what they build.

If the same labor and capital was used to create something that could be sold at a profit it might actually make people better off. For example, imagine GM built a car for $28,000 (including the dealer's expenses for simplicity) and sold it for $30,000. The buyer now has a car that he/she obviously values at, at least $30,000 (call it $33k with tax) and GM now has $2,000 that it didn't before it built and sold the car that it can reinvest or pay out as dividends. Plus the government picks up sales tax on the car and income tax from GM.

If the thieves in DC were honest and understood Economics they would be lowering taxes and repealing all but the most important regulations. Unfortunately most of the lobbyists in DC spend their time pushing for "the right kind of regulation" to score a comparative advantage over their competitors.
