It may, but then again GM dominated for decades and all of a sudden Toyota came out of nowhere. As I said, it strictly depends on what time period you are looking at. Saying that, I will wholeheartedly agree that it will be hard to overcome the sales the Mustang has racked up over the last 40 years.
EDIT: Also, I would like to point out that these advertising advantages you speak of are open to any of its competitors, however, it is up to those competitors on rather or not to use them.
