But who ever said the Volt was designed to save the driver money...? It's an odd question at first glance...but really think about it. At no point has anyone tried to convince anyone else that reducing fuel consumption was going to be cheap. Quite the contrary. The Volt is the "Corvette of Economy Vehicles" in every way imaginable. Performance is unbelievable...it's an icon in its segment...and, like the Corvette; you've got to pay to play.
I don't want to have to rely on gas...and frankly, I think the car is freaking cool. If I had a few extra bucks, I'd lease a Volt without a second look in addition to buying a Camaro. But the reality is I don't...many don't.
GM has seemed to recognize this and planned for it with the slow roll-out. There is a market for this car. It's not nearly as big as the market for Cruze, Focus, and civic, etc...but it's there. They just need time to develop this car some more to lower price, and get a foot-hold in the market (which is becoming apparent). toyota had the same hurdles to overcome when the prius was first introduced...

The Corvette analogy regarding the Volt is probably the most rediculous I've seen. If anything, the Volt is the anti-Corvette. In the Volt, you are not getting much VALUE at all. The Corvette competes with vehicles above it's price range at a BARGAIN price. There is nothing bargain about the Volt. With the Volt you are paying a PREMIUM on an idea, vs in the Corvette you are getting a BARGAIN on performance.
