In my case I had to make a lot of personal sacrafices in my almost 30 years life to be successful to this point, having a family is one of them. I can't imagine how much difficult things would've have been if I had a marriage to maintain, children I had to save tuition money for and not to mention a mortgage on top of it all. It may not be for you or the next guy but in my case I've made something of it and I've enjoyed my life being obligated to nobody but me and the dog.
Not really sure what you mean by this. More and more families have dual incomes just to support a family. That to me seems like people are trying. I think you are seeing a lot of black and white. Unfortunately there is more grey in the world. Maybe it's just me, but you make it sound like if people fall in love, get married, have kids, that they screwed their life up if they are struggling later in life. Things happen that can't be seen in the future. You can't live your life playing it safe all the time and only caring about yourself. Well at least most people can't.
