The new 6 speed auto in my Dodge is very refined, downshifts, with no hunting. The tow/haul mode is very smooth when towing, and the exhaust brake is very positive.I had a 2005 GMC with the Duramax/allison combo.No doubt it has many features, but definately not a deal maker.
As for power, everyone with a diesel is running a tuner, or more, if they are hauling anything big. To be honest, only ranchers hauling tandem dually goosenecks, with rolls of hay, come close or exceed the towing capacity.I'm talking 20,000lbs,if a redneck can get the trailer to move, the truck obviously is rated for it.
