Its absolutely true, no leaks, no seeps, no warnings, the Jetta, just two feet into the drive, started losing oil. Sunday morning , my daughter left a few minutes before we did, she called home and said her engine sounded strange and then the low oil light came on. She shut it off and she's on the side of the road about 4 miles away. The pic below is what I saw, except now I have some floor dry on the concrete. Makes me sick.
Ready for the kicker, after church, I took a couple cans of brake cleaner and some oil to her car and put it in so I could find the leak. I had someone crank the motor while I watched. The gushing leak was above the oil filter housing where the oil cooler is connected. Turns out there is a o-ring that is about two dollars at the dealer has alot of VW and Audi folks with 10 year old cars with toasted motors. I put a new o-ring in and new filter, oil and started it up at idle. No leaks... Yea!!!! Rev the motor above 2000 rpm and the crankshaft starts banging away.
I am looking for a replacement engine, look out you vw/audi owners.... If you have not changed this seal, you better. It will leave you stranded in the worst way. There should be a recall on this.
