Another excellent alternative that has been demonized since the 1937 Hemp/Marijuana tax law was passed. If people were to research the history of hemp they would be surprised as to how much of an impact it had in early American history. Until the invention of the cotton gin a good deal of hemp was used in the textile industry, paper was made from it.

Below is a link that is from a pro legalization of marijuana website but their history and time line for the legalization of hemp as an industrial alternative is fairly accurate.

Edit; After posting the following link I later started to wonder if that would be misunderstood by some as some sort of endorsement of marijuana use on my part, it is not. My only intention was and still is to point out the uses of Hemp not marijuana, which are two entirerly different forms of cannabis.

I also edited 2ndgenz28 quote. I understood what you meant 2ndgenz28 it sort of came across as trees being more cost effective.
