He'll definitely love and hate it at times as it is a love/hate relationship. I had a '94 bought brand new and sold about 4 years ago. As many have already said it's dependable and fun. The biggest drawback is the gas. Doesn't matter if it's a 4 cyc. or 8 it's going to suck lots of gas. So get the 8 to back it up with power. Definitely want to buy one with the hard top and have several soft tops. Mine didn't have an ac and the only unit I had was a 2 65 (two windows down and drive 65). If you don't have a hard top you'll wish you did during the winter. Also the plastic windows will crack in the winter if you try to need to fold them down. Lesson learned there. The soft tops will need lots of conditioning as they will dry rot over time. Also the plastic windows will fade if you don't watch it when you take the tops down. The use to recommend you to roll the back window up when you take the top down. Its best to just take if off if you do. I'd definitely get another one someday but I would have to make sure I get all the stuff I want on it.
