Was helping my best friend move some of her stuff in my pickup today. We're taking off from this intersection and a scruffy old guy wearing a backpack took a tumble on the side of the road. My friend was watching him and saying he couldn't get back up. At first we thought old drunk but then could see he really couldn't get up.
We called 911 and the 911 operator was telling my friend that "if he's walking we're not sending anybody over. That is a high-transient area, he is probably drunk. It's a waste of our time." We had turned around by this time and circled back to see if the old boy was up and moving. He was up but slumped over and hardly able to stay up. We stopped and asked him if he was ok - he was still wearing a hospital bracelet, he wasn't drunk, and he was having difficulty breathing, he had emphysema. He didn't want to sit down because he thought he couldn't get back up. He just got out of the hospital 2 days ago.
Dani literally had to argue with the 911 lady to send an aid truck over, but we waited with him until the paramedics & fire dep't got there. He was in distress, the paramedics said he probably would have checked out if we hadn't called them. I'm glad we turned around and went back. Poor old guy.
Good Karma or amazing coincidence - got in my old pickup and fired it back up, for the first time in forever the check engine did not come on.
