I am a professional geologist and I worked for a major oil company for a while. I know a few things about petroleum reserves from reading the scientific and petroleum-industry literature (for example, the Journal of Petroleum Geology). Drilling anywhere (foreign or domestic) is not going to be a long-term solution to our energy needs and it certainly won't help the environment to continue to burn fossil fuels.
When you say "it's been proven," I would be interested to read the scientific literature that you're referring to. It would be great if you would cite your source.
