Quote:
Toyota said Wednesday that it is recalling 1.4 million vehicles owing to concerns about flaws in their seat belts and exhaust pipes. Of those, 830,000 are the Yaris hatchback and sedan models sold in North America, Europe and other markets. A further 525,000 were sold in Japan under the brand names Vitz, Belta and Ractis. They were manufactured between January 2005 and April 2008. The company said it is mainly concerned about the risk of flammability of a safety component, the seat belt tensioner, in case of collision. For some cars sold in Japan, there is concern that an exhaust pipe may crack from heat.
