Diabetes

Steve,

Glad that you are on the road to recovery. I have to share this with you, because diabetes type II, can be overcome. I don't know if you are over weight or not, but most newly diagnosed diabetics are. I am not, and was diagnosed as diabetic type II, almost 2 years ago. It scared the heck out of me. At the time I was 55 yrs old, 5-8/180, so a few extra pounds, but not even close to being heavy or fat. I went to classes, and took the info to heart, made the decision that this was serious, and acted accordingly.

I was told to lose a few pounds, exercise and change my diet. I had been eating too much cake and cookies for years. To make a long story short, I radically changed by eating habits, started a more regular walking program, and it's been more than a year now since my blood sugar has been in the diabetic range. So, there is hope, if you have the will power to change your eating habits, and do some moderate exercise. My blood sugar numbers were never very high, but they were elevated enough to diagnosed as diabtic. I was lucky in that it was discovered during a normal annual physical. Thankfully it was caught early, and life style changes worked without me having to use any diabtetes meds. I no longer consider myself diabetic, but I know I've been given a 2nd chance. I watch carbohydrates very very carefully now, and if I over do it, Im right on the treadmill to burn it off. I stopped testing my blood about 6 months ago because I am now aware of how many carbs I am taking in, and what the limits for me are.

I hope that your diabetes is still at a point where you can control it without drugs too! To anyone else reading this, don't let what happened to Steve happen to you. Have your blood sugar tested if you are over weight. I beat it, and will not let it take over my life, you can too! Merry Christmas to everyone, and Steve, I'm sure God has a reason to keep you around. Use your "added" time wisely.
