Thats one of the reasons that they recommend premium gas, its supposed to last a bit longer.

You'd have to never drive the car for that to happen, and if so ... the same could be said for any car. The engine in the Volt is programmed to use a little bit of gas every now and then, I think its about a tank over the course of a year. This is to keep the seals conditioned, stir up the gas, and address other issues that arise from an engine not running for extended periods of time. But of course, if you regularly use the gas engine it doesn't have to take care of itself.
