Chances are, anything you hear about them doing today was started years ago, before government ownership, before the bankruptcy, before bankruptcy was even a possibility.

I haven't seen it myself (please link to it if you can find it) but there nothing wrong with being environmentally conscious, particularly when it can boost sales. Additionally, GM has been doing a lot of R&D toward alternative fuels over the last decade or so and has implemented more practical solutions than the posterboys for 'green automakers' have. Reality is, using dino juice at todays rates isn't a good idea, using more is worse. Finding ways to use less is better.
