Yeah I think the Camaro, if it has an LS3, will be detuned to 420 or so.
I meant more a long the lines if the 2008 LS3 Vette has 430hp and then the 2009 LS3 Vette gets 450hp, that would upset Vette owners that bought the 08. Alot of the guys that have still new 06 and 07 vettes with a now "obsolete" LS2 are also upset.
The Camaro may also not be detuned per se. I think I figured out what GM did to the LS1 F-bodies; GM just advertised a different point of the power curve
Corvette- 350 hp @ 5,600 rpm / 375 lb-ft @ 4,400 rpm
Camaro - 310 hp @ 5,200 rpm / 340 lb-ft @ 4,000 rpm
It stands to reason if you looked at the Camaro's power curve at 5,600 rpm and at 4,400 rpm it would look the same or very close to the Vette. However, that is a pretty big jump after only 400 rpm so I'm not sure if that is the entire story. Either way GM might execute similar sleight of hand with an LS3 Camaro.
Although with SAE certification becoming a standard lately, maybe it won't be underrated at all. I'm talking my self in circles at this point.
I'm totally off topic now, but yeah Saleen was right about the 6.2L GM engine before the LS3 was announced.
