At work today on MCRD Parris Island, myself and another former Marine wanted to do a cake cutting ceremony for the Marine Corps Birthday. We have an old retired Marine named John that comes in a lot to talk to everyone and do presenations for the Marine Recruits. He happened to be in the branch when we were gonna do our ceremony, so we had him cut the cake and have the first piece as the oldest Marine present, and of course the second piece went to my buddy who's 24, the youngest Marine there (and youngest at the branch for that matter). Then we read General John A Lejeune's Birthday Message and played the Marines Hymn. I could tell he was very happy to be there and that we gave him the honors of cutting the cake and appreciated his presence at our "ceremony." He's a widower, so his volunteer service for the recruits is all he's got. It was pretty nice actually, he was an official Marine Gunner during Vietnam, so he's seen a lot of action.

Sorry for the long story, but the post related to my day at work today.
Very nice story, thank you indeed.
