its not even about the padding. if you watch the commercial, when he pours the soda on the carpet, it puddles out past the carpet, then the camera changes and if you look closely there is only a small circle of soda stain on the carpet patch. at which point the guy says "we're gonna do this in real time, you watchin camera guy?" and if you look even closer, the shamwow is darkened from already having soaked up an amount of liquid. then he wrings it out, and soaks up the last little bit.
the shamwow is just like any other chamois cloth... except this one is on tv.
