I have heard about this movie, but that was a LONG time ago. Supposedly, Cruise is now an Instructor taking on a brash, cocky young fighter jock (shades of Rocky 5)..IF done well, could be an interesting movie. BUT as any fighter jock will tell ya, the original was a joke as far as realism is concerned. for example, ANY "flybys" automatically result in a loss of wings and a dishonorable discharge in the real Navy....

You mean any unauthorized “flybys”!
I worked on a flight deck for four years and have seen a few “flybys”. Mostly they are for video/photo-shoots. The “breaking the sound barrier flybys” required us to turn off most the electronics in the island structure first.
