Also beware - scrap metal haulers

I found out a couple of years ago to stay vary far away from scrap metal haulers.

Where I live they are becoming more common. They are old pick-ups with or without flat-bed trailers and normally loaded a mountain high.

As I was going to pass one of these vehicles (they also drive 45 in a 65), I watched the hammer size piece of metal bounce off the trailer and within a millisecond fly into my windshield. I was about 4 car lengths back when this happened and even though I recall it happening in slow-motion; I could not get out of the way!

Luckily the windshield stopped it and no damage was done to the body of the car. I pulled over the vehicle after the few seconds of shock wore off and the anger kicked in. They did not have any paperwork on them except a business card. I called their office manager and once I said, “They almost killed me!”; did they then try to do everything to correct the situation. From there I went straight to a repair shop (closest to my house) and got an estimate, where the repair shop called the office manager from the incident and got half the repair cost paid upfront. The next day I was back to new!!!

Now, when I see one of these vehicles, I do everything I can so to stay far away!
