you could get a new performance block and start from the ground up but who with a zr1 wants to do that. i understand on the zo6.

Fundamentally, the LS9 is a supercharged LS3. There are a number of other differences, but conceptually thats what it is. And yes, you can go with a different cam, up the boost, bigger blower, etc. But ultimately, the LS9 has more potential than the LS7 does.
