Now that I think about it, you even don't need to use energy equation. Its just a habit of mine because its so much easier to work with.
Anyway, just use that first equation I showed twice. First solve for v
i given v, s, and s
i. Then do it again for s (v = 0, s
i = 0) and your calculated value for v
i. It should work out the same way.

Oh yeah, it happens. And sadly, the real world doesn't even care how many numbers you want. It might give you 2 when you need 10, or 10 when you need 2. Reality sucks.
