I agree, however more moderately priced, say below $50k performance cars still have a good market appeal. Cars like the GT500, the Z28 and the SRT8 sell fairly well, even in this down economy.

GT500 is selling well I agree. Z28 doesn't exist and the current SRT8's should stop selling now that they've announced a more powerful and less expensive version. However, considering how few SRT8 Challengers they do build, it's hard to find the exact options you want and many will settle on color/transmission.
Only the SRT8 fits your category of 'below $50k performance cars' though. Corvettes are readily available below $50k new.
