Could this also be a chicken/egg issue? I mean; how did they start in Europe?

If I recall correctly, GM aquired all those brands in Europe (Opel, Vauxhall, etc)...I don't think they started them, if you know what I mean. That is where Toyota and GM differ globally. Now...in order to consolidate brands, they'd need to close down the current ones, and increase marketing of the 'new' brand. And I don't know about that. I look at Oldsmobile, and think it could do more harm than good right now. Maybe later?

fwiw; Chevy supposedly does very well in Europe, but it's marketed as a bargain-basement brand. Not the bargain-to-brilliant range like it is here.
