littlecami, I disagree on several points:

A car is worth as much as people are willing to pay for it. The M series moves well for BMW- particularly the M3 so they obviously have it priced right. I believe you are looking at the Camparo vs the 911. I believe you pulled out 3 favorite numbers and disregarded the rest of the article. It may not be worth that money TO YOU, but it clearly is worth it to someone else. So it's not "obvious". BMW's are out of my league, but there's no way that I can say they aren't world class cars.

As far as only considering American Cars. I agree that all things being equal, yes, you should buy an American Car (especially in the cars as commuting appliances category). However American Car's truly weren't competitive for an unfortunately long time. I have 3 American Car's parked in front of my house right now. If we ever have a return to the 80s and my choices are a Ford Grenada or a Camry- I'm sorry, the Camry wins. I won't buy inferior products for jingoism.

M Series, 911s, and Corvettes (several others of course) are "passion cars" for most people. For whatever reason, they've been dreaming about and saving and working hard for years, maybe even a lifetime. I'd never begrudge a person for buying a 911 if that's their dream car.
