I think you could apply this same statement to any nameplate and it would be just as true. That is the reality of the world we live in. I do need some help understanding this statement, however:

What do you mean by being "hard up"? This is not a term that I find used much in regards to automotive subjects. Usually it means someone's personal finances are weak or a person is having little or no luck getting a date.

Also, exactly what is the "wrong" vehicle to be caught in? I assume you mean these die-hard Ford guys you speak of would not be caught in anything but a car built by that manufacturer. If so, you have those in every crowd as evidenced by posts by some people on this very board.
