As budget cuts have taken their toll on the public school system I started investigating private alternatives. My children now attend Catholic grammar and high schools. We are not catholic. The reason we selected these schools as a family were the TEACHERS. As I understand it these teachers are working for about 70% of what they would earn in a public school. They make this sacrifice for two reasons.

1. They believe in a Christian education. That should be no surprise to anyone.
2. The amount of time and effort they had to spend during class time in the public schools on discipline was such as distraction they could not tolerate it. That was shocking to me.

That is a sad commentary on society. The reason the feel they have so few problems in the Catholic schools they teach in is parent commitment. They feel parents have more invested because of their religious beliefs and the school tuition. How could a parent need more commitment than the welfare of their own child?

I am sorry you have had to deal with this in your classroom and parking lot.
