Ok, I have to jump in here. I had an 07 GT500 which I purchased with 1800ish miles in Oct of 08. By the time I hit 14k miles the clutch was slipping when I got on it (only when the SC engaged). I took it to the dealer and they said it was blown and that there was nothing they could do. There was a TSB issued for the early model 07's due to a poor flywheel which caused overheating and excess wear and tear. They admitted that but wouldn't cover it because my 3/36 warranty was out of date by 3 weeks. I fought with them high and low. They said it would be $3k to replace the clutch. I told them to go to hell (figuratively) and started calling performance shops. The dealer then called me and said they would do it for $1k... but so did the performance shop. They would install a Spec Stage 3 clutch and aluminum flywheel for around $925. I bit the bullet and bought the aftermarket clutch.
I learned 2 things:
- One, if your clutch is defective you better damn well pray it fails fast
- 6 puck clutches blow. They are extremely loud and if you try and slip it it makes a god awful noise.
Now, I was furious at Ford for not replacing my clutch but also at myself for not checking TSB's before I bought the car.
With that said... I am trading my Camaro SS in for a 2010 GT500 on saturday. I picked it up for $43-44k. Only option missing is HID lights :(
Do I blame Ford? No, even though my vehicle was 100% stock (I hadn't so much as replaced a light bulb), I don't blame them because I was out of warranty and the way things were going they couldn't afford to just be nice. However, they did knock 70% off the cost of an OEM replacement which was very nice.
In your case, you modded it. It failed, it sucks. I do think you overpaid for your aftermarket clutch but that's a separate issue. I have a hard time sympathizing with you... even though it happened to me on 100% stock car w/o a single drag run. Was your car under warranty? Yup, but there is no reason for Ford to take responsibility for parts designed and sold by someone other than them. That's bad business sense.
If they offered a special SVT warranty or something you could pay for... that's different.
I'm sorry about your car and wish you well in whatever you choose to drive in the future but live and learn.
