And if you'd read the link MC69 posted (especially
http://www.copyright.gov/help/faq/fa...al.html#mywork) you'd know that putting a copyright notice on something is mostly window dressing that doesn't make it any "easier to defend". If that's really what you want to do, as opposed to just trying to keep honest people honest, you need to register the work.
