Just for the heck of it I slapped together a system on Compusa.com for ya. The price includes the cost of Windows 7 home Premium 64 bit edition. It has integrated sound and graphics that I think would be fine for what you're doing (comparing it to what you use now) but I included a good video card for $50 if you wanted it. It's an ASUS mother board which is good stuff and and an I5 650 3.20ghz processor. The board will take an I7 so you could always upgrade later. It's got a decent case with a 500W power supply and 4GB of ram a dvd burner and a 500GB 7200RPM drive with a 16 MB cache which is good because it's fast. A lot of the time You'd get a 500GB drive but it's only 5400RPM and a smaller cache and it makes a BIG difference.
