And there's a very strong sentiment that his writings were simply reflections of what was occurring during HIS time...problem is, if he called somebody important a nasty name; he'd be killed. Hence the vagueness.
That's in addition to the fact that nobody knows what the heck he's talking about until AFTER it happens...that's useful.
