Maybe the reason people feel that Union memebers are over paid is that they make more than Non-Union people doing the same job. That is the purpose of the Union. To better the working environment of its members. This proves companies will not voluntarily give workers what the Unions fight for. The reason that your teachers Union is not able to give you better pay is that they usually have to fight an uphill battle with state and local schools. Not that you don't deserve it, they just don't have the bargaiing abilities to achieve it. This is because historically Union membership is down in this country. Between the "UNion Busting" laws, rules, and actions (like what the Senate just tried) and the sad truth that America has forgotten its past when it comes to the Unions and what the fought and won. Norma Rae means nothing to todays workers. If America would work together to rebuild our Industries instead of making foriegn companies and nations richer, we might not be in this situation economically. This country was the model for the modern industrial era, now we are the model saps buying products from our enemies.
